US Antarctic Program divers Rob Robbins, Brenda Konar and Amanda Kelley collect a calibration sample for a Sea-FET instrument, an autonomous pH oceanographic sensor located at Cape Evans, McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, for a project studying ocean acidification. Research from this project, led by Gretchen Hofmann at the University of California, Santa Barbara, resulted in the first-ever continuous time-series pH data from the Southern Ocean, setting a benchmark for monitoring future changes to this pristine marine ecosystem.
