The CAVE2 system is a next generation, large-scale, virtual environment--a room in which images are seamlessly displayed so as to immerse an observer in a cyber world of 3-D data. Here, Alessandro Febretti, a research assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago's (UIC) Electronic Visualization Laboratory and computer science Ph.
D. candidate, is using his OmegaLib software to quickly display 3-D data representing the self-assembly of a ligated gold nanoparticle and proteins inside an ionic solution in the CAVE2 system. The data was provided by the Petr Knil Research Group in UIC's Department of Chemistry and the Vincent M. Rotello Research Group at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.Image credit: Photo by Lance Long; courtesy Electronic Visualization Laboratory, University of Illinois at Chicago
